New Season Tomorrow!

Don't be late! Tee time is 11am at Heritage Harbor (that's the one on Lutz Lake Fern).

Get there early to hit range balls if you want.

And be sure to bring about $10 in cash for league fees and whatnot. See you then.

Rule Reminders

Reid apparently thinks this site isn't updated enough, since he wants a "tip of the day" section added.

Anyway, here are a few rule reminders for the league (which you can find in the rules section)
  • Starting this season, if your ball is in a bunker resting on an un-raked footprint you can pick it up, rake the spot, and place it back down. However... if it's buried (fried-egg) you have to play it as it lies.

  • Another new rule this season: if your ball is in the fairway lying in an old divot (even sand filled), go ahead and roll it out. You found the fairway, so you deserve a good lie. But if you're in a divot in the rough... too bad.

  • You can pull out and drop any ball embedded in it's on mark, as long as it isn't in a hazard (bunker, waste area, lake, etc). Being embedded isn't the same thing as sitting down in thick rough. So don't go picking up your ball for no reason like Gorecki does. Ask your cart-buddy if you aren't sure.

  • Most important rule: we play OB as the rules of golf tell us to. If your ball goes out-of-bounds, you need to re-hit from the same spot with a penalty. So if your tee-shot clearly goes over a house into the road, you are now hitting your 3rd shot off the tee. If your ball goes even near OB, hit a provisional just in case. It's a two-stroke penalty if you don't.
Technically, the same OB rule applies for a lost ball that isn't located. But that's a little harsh when we don't have marshals. Or fans helping us find balls. So we play a lost ball as a 1 stroke penalty.

Pairings Change

So... I took PTO today and played golf this morning. And that one round caused my handicap to increase enough (on the 2/1 revision) to change our pairings.

Faz loses his one stroke advantage... and he's now with Mike O.

JW... bring at least your "C" game.

Mike... I'm going to steal your clubs out of your car. Again.

More to follow.

Week 1 Pairings & Week 2 Sign-Up

Assuming nobody plays any golf this week (Mike O's app tells me he hasn't played in a month), and assuming Heritage Harbor hasn't re-rated their course in a year... here are the pairings and strokes:

JW convinced me to just assign the strokes normally, off the lowest handicapped guy in the group. The way I had it set up limited the chances of the higher guy helping to win "low ball".  So...

Group 1
Faz & Mike O. (Mike gets one stroke on the 14 hardest holes)
Chandler & JW (JW gets 14)

Group 2
Gary & Geoff (Geoff gets 11 strokes)
Reid & Darren (Reid gets 2 strokes, Darren gets 9)

As always, you can view the course handicaps and scorecards on the event page. Use the links on the schedule (click "score" to view scorecard).

Go ahead and comment if you're IN for Week 2 on February 8th. It's Geoff's Skins Game, with location and time TBD.

Week 1 - Part 2

As mentioned yesterday, our first tournament will be Saturday, February 1st at Heritage Harbor (11am).

Get there early to warm up and check in. Round should be about $37 after tax. Bring extra cash for league fee ($5) and side bets.

I'll post the pairings and some rule reminders later this week so check back. See you then.

Week 1

11am at Heritage Harbor. Should be $35+ tax.

I'll update all the docs and whatnot if I survive Gasparilla.

Flashback Friday

Gorecki (who is allegedly moving back to "Tampa") told me today that his realtor was suggesting places near Countryway. Which means... we need to revisit this post from July, 2012.

It's a great refresher on how OB works... and how Gorecki will try to cheat if you don't watch him carefully. Enjoy!

P.S... how awesome would it be if Countryway actually becomes his home course?

Upcoming Season Updates

Week 1 is officially full. We never heard back from Ben, but JW said he's down for playing in some league events this season. He's been trying to play more, so hopefully this will help that goal.

The format for week one is Low Ball / Low Total. Teams will be grouped based on handicaps (lowest with highest). Strokes will be given between the two "low" handicappers and the two "high" handicappers.

AS OF TODAY (as in... there is one revision left so this might change) teams would be:

Chandler & Mike vs. Faz & JW

Gary & Geoff vs. Reid & Darren

Again, these teams might change depending on how many rounds people play between now and February 1st.

The tournament itself is a normal stroke play event where money is paid out to the top two players and points to the top six. But an additional 50 points will be given to each winning team.

The team game "Low Ball / Low Total" works like this: There are a possible of two points per hole, and those points do not roll over. A team earns one point for having the lowest individual net score on the hole, and one point for the lowest combined net total on the hole.

Let's say on the first hole, JW is getting a stroke. Gross scores are: Faz (3), Chandler (4), Mike (5), JW (7). Faz/JW will get one point for low ball (Faz's score of 3). Neither team gets a point for low total since JW's 7 is a net 6... so each team had a total of 9. Make sense? Most of you have played this game so I'm not really sure who benefits from my convoluted explanation.

The Hangover Invitational on March 1st is moving to March 2nd. Update your calendars! Turns out the Ybor Beer Fest is on the 1st and I'm sure some people are going. However, that means they're in for a long night since they'll be drunk well before 9pm. Whatever... good luck to those people.

Golf This Weekend

Anyone want to play on Sunday? I'm without a game for the first time in a long while. The weather is going to be pretty decent. And the 1pm NFL game is a dud. Let me know.
