Rule Reminders

Reid apparently thinks this site isn't updated enough, since he wants a "tip of the day" section added.

Anyway, here are a few rule reminders for the league (which you can find in the rules section)

• Starting this season, if your ball is in a bunker resting on an un-raked footprint you can pick it up, rake the spot, and place it back down. However... if it's buried (fried-egg) you have to play it as it lies.


• Another new rule this season: if your ball is in the fairway lying in an old divot (even sand filled), go ahead and roll it out. You found the fairway, so you deserve a good lie. But if you're in a divot in the rough... too bad.


• You can pull out and drop any ball embedded in it's on mark, as long as it isn't in a hazard (bunker, waste area, lake, etc). Being embedded isn't the same thing as sitting down in thick rough. So don't go picking up your ball for no reason like Gorecki does. Ask your cart-buddy if you aren't sure.


• Most important rule: we play OB as the rules of golf tell us to. If your ball goes out-of-bounds, you need to re-hit from the same spot with a penalty. So if your tee-shot clearly goes over a house into the road, you are now hitting your 3rd shot off the tee. If your ball goes even near OB, hit a provisional just in case. It's a two-stroke penalty if you don't.

Technically, the same OB rule applies for a lost ball that isn't located. But that's a little harsh when we don't have marshals. Or fans helping us find balls. So we play a lost ball as a 1 stroke penalty.
