- Still waiting on the USGA to process our application. I highly doubt they have a large backlog, so apparently "growing the game" is a lot like growing a tomato plant.
- I've had a few requests to tighten up our procedure for allowing new members. Back when we had about 8 people, we asked new members to submit scores and try to play a couple events with us. That soon evolved into requiring a little more commitment, as Katie and Troy basically played an entire season with us before becoming official. That's the direction people want to see it go... a longer probation period where new members need to show dedication while establishing a more accurate handicap.
It seems Robbie is finally healthy enough to start playing, so I'll make room for him this season (He filled out his registration! Maybe Dave can figure it out?!?) . Same goes for Danny Mac. Both should attend as many weeks as possible if they want to officially join.
- Regarding Gorecki's lack of athleticism... since we're finally calculating handicaps from different tees correctly, he feels he should be able to move up as far as he wants. From what I'm hearing, most people have told me they don't care. That tune will change if he ever starts winning long drive dollars (his 10% long drive rate is the second lowest in the league among active members).
- Then there's "Gorecki's" tournament. Should we be allowed to move back as far as we want? Most people are saying it defeats the theme, so we should play up at whatever 5,000yd tee box he picks. However, his event has also been reported by a handful of people as "offensive." So it's currently under review and we might remove it completely.
- Last but not least... due to the popularity of the "Handicap Tracker," there is a TON of interest in the "Gross Scoring Average Tracker." The below chart shows all active league members and their tournament gross scoring average (only what you shoot in official events, adjusted to par 72). #goreckisucks
If Goreicki can move forward from the designated tees then we should be able to move back in his tournament.rules is rules so I think his tournament should be scrapped!
ReplyDeleteI personally agree with both those sentiments for a couple of reasons:
ReplyDelete1) We used to have a "Tips" tournament. It was deemed gimmicky and really unfair to most members who physically struggle with forced carries. As you can imagine Gorecki was all for us cutting it. Yet he's OK with the double standard of forcing people to move up?
2) The initial tournament idea was for a par-3 event. After publicly stating a million times that it is "not his tournament," Gorecki now wants the theme to be him picking a course and tees he likes. So basically there is no theme. We're just playing from his normal spot. For instance: the golds and Buffalo Creek and Mangrove Bay. That's where he plays anyway!
Now I'm not looking to just arbitrarily replace the event with some other bad idea. When we cut "The Tips" and the "Early Bird" it was because we dropped from 11 events a season to 9. However... it's on the Board of Director's radar.
Nice new stat tracker. Can you post the gross avg of what we scored this past season so we can evaluate if we improved vs our career?
ReplyDeleteIf we are looking for a replacement event, the two players with the most starts that don't have an event named for them are Gary (79) and Darren (69). For the record, Gorecki has only 40 starts under his belt. Gary's event could involve us playing with a blindfold on so we never know where our tee shots are. Old school Darren would have us all ripping Marb Reds the entire day but he's gone and cleaned up his act for some crazy reason so now I have no idea what his theme should be. We all have to wear sweater vests?
ReplyDeleteYour gross average was 29.2 strokes over par, so 101.2. That's only better than Geoff and JW but you skipped Hernando Oaks, Southern Hills, Saddlebrook, and Heritage Isles while playing Countryway, Rogers Park after leaving the bar early and Orange County National, which everyone tore up. Dave shot gross 80 there and came in 6th. You bought pitchers in 40% of your starts and were 23 over on just the back 9 at Lexington Oaks, which was higher than most of us on all 18 holes.

ReplyDeleteFaz, I would like your first post if that were possible. As for Gorecki moving up I really don't care, but he shouldn't count for long drive. I've seen him out drive many of us and a 50 - 60 yard head start is BS!

ReplyDeleteIf we allow Gorecki to move up... Then it just is what it is. He's might get your dollar. But sleep well knowing it's only happened four times in 40 events.
Part of me doesn't like the idea of letting a non-official member in The Rapture. We did that with Ben M. when we needed a 12th the first year. However, I'm one of those in danger of not qualifying, so my feelings on this are biased.
ReplyDeleteLet's play the first 3 weeks under the assumption that Robbie is out. If he plays all three of those weeks (he's registered to), then we can make sure both captains are cool with it. Which I imagine they would be just to allow everyone to participate.
He'd still be ineligible for the season Cup race though, as he builds a more accurate handicap.
If I am one of the captains I think Robbie playing is a great move
