Match Play - Summer 2019 Preview

Going to be a weird day at the Creek.

For one, we'll be dodging rain pretty much the entire time. Be sure plan accordingly.

Second, we have 13 players. So the bottom 3 guys are playing a one-sided match against people higher than them. We've used the one-sided match before, but never three times in one event. Technically, all that matters is the top guys are playing each other.

Finally, below is an old-ish scorecard from Cypress Creek. Not sure these distances are exact anymore, but at least all the tees exist. We'll be on WHITE, with Dave on BLUE. If you want to move back, let me know. Or move up. Anything goes.

Also, we'll be using the current scorecard hole-by-hole handicaps for matches (at 80% allowance). Online sheet should be updated shortly.

Reminder:
The stroke play tournament is still going on. So even if someone you're NOT playing against tells you a putt is no-good... then you need to putt it.

  1. No event does more to bolster my argument for a zero gimmie policy than this one. Just hole your putts, it’s not that hard.

  2. If you want a zero gimmie policy, implement it in your group every Sunday.

  4. Behold the 30 second pre-shot routine for a 5 inch putt.

  5. Especially with all the pin in business.

  6. How are the last 3 matching up? Will it be all three compete for 100 pts or the highest ranked competes against the second for 100 points, and if the third beats the highest then he gets 100 pts, too?

  7. Put each one into one of the first 3 groups... playing the worst-seed of that group.

The latter of what you said, just matched them up against the worst/lowest seed. So if Darren beats Moostie he gets 100 points. If Darren ties Moostie he gets 50. Moostie only gets points based on his match with Gary.

Of course, once someone gets scared of the rain and bails, all of this will change.

  8. Looking forward to some of those big numbers from Reid again this week!

  9. You gotta believe that with Moostie having to play to matches in his head at once will not bode well for everyone behind us...

  10. I'm excited to bring my miserable match play record up with 2 wins (jk..I know beating the Barron wont count). My pace of play increases considerably the lower my score ends up being. What am I Gary, 0 and 5 against you? That streak is bound to end! You have to be tired of #winning..Have I ever played more than 3 other people, other than you, over 10 match play events?

  11. Weatherman just said: “if you have outdoor plans on Sunday, don’t cancel them.”

Sounds like it’s just gonna be spotty. Rain off and on. Might have to sit for a bit like we did at Buffy Creek. But we are playing.
