Jamaican Open - Summer 2023 Preview

Tournament is now a shotgun start at 8am. Don't be late.

We are back to meaningful golf... with a tournament at Lake Jovita (South) in 100+ degree heat index on Sunday.

We've been here many times before. It wasn't in good shape all summer, so I'm hoping that has somehow miraculously changed. But shout-out to Ho for getting us on at a decent rate ($70).

Tee time is early at 8am.

Everyone is on WHITE unless you tell me otherwise. The 55/25 group can play white/greens combo if they want. Let me know!

  1. I'll move back to the Blues.

Any chance we can get a shotgun start like last year?

  3. I’ll ask on the shotgun start.

Fairway and greens are in decent shape (greens are quick as always) it’s rained almost every day so the bunkers aren’t in the best of shape currently but I believe the bunkers that are bad are marked as GUR. Probably going to be playing there on Wednesday and can double check everything.

  4. Just checked the handicap index updates and it's nice to see everyone's indexes either dropped or stayed the same with the latest update EXCEPT for the guys that just went and played 8 rounds of golf in Michigan. Apparently, playing more golf does not make you a better golfer. Playing very little golf has also not made me better at golf. I'm beginning to question whether the Road to Scratch is even a real road.

  5. Oh it's even worse than you think. Only two of the eight Michigan rounds were recorded before the 15th. So a bunch of us (me, Gary, Reid) have 6 more shit rounds that will skyrocket our Indexes before the final two Majors.

Thankfully the USGA has instituted the "soft" and "hard" handicap throttles. Gary and Reid are both in the "soft" zone... which still equates to a 0.7 and 1.4 index increase on deck! Gary's index would be a 19.8 if not for that throttle.

Mine is a non-throttled 0.6 increase on the horizon.

Michigan courses were either very difficult (and rated as such), leading to shit scores... or moderately difficult (and rated easy) which also won't take the rounds. Lots of sand out there which helped fill our bags.

  6. Shotgun start confirmed. Bunkers are good, greens were fast today.
Some of the rough is super deep (ask Adam about the 2nd cut on 17) so good luck hacking out of it.
There may be orange flags lining the fairway on 9 but it’s just markers for the new greens crew as they are widening the fairway.

  7. I appreciate the shotgun start, Ho. Spending 60 minutes less time out in the mid-day heat and humidity will be nice.
