Fun night at Riveters... which was a decent set up for the draft with surprisingly good food. Who knew.
There were also a few surprises in the selections.
- Chandler (¡soy yo!) going first when everyone thought it would be (should be) Dave.
- Brendan taking the strokes with Reid and Gary over Casey and Ho
- Geoff actually pausing to think about selecting Moostie over Ho, before coming to his senses

We are playing the #3/4 combo tees at Whispering Oak on days 1 and 3 (Chapman and Singles).
We will play the #3 tees on Old Orange day 2 (Four-Ball).
I'll go ahead and publish my picks:
ReplyDeleteDay 1 - Chapman
Match 1 - Chandler/Faz are 1-0 in this format. Brendan/Reid have never paired up in Chapman. All four of these guys have winning Chapman records. This ends in a tie.
Match 2 - Dave (3-6-1) and Moostie (2-7-1) historically suck at this format. Two of Dave's wins came when he was paired with Faz... by far his "most skilled" partner. Dave and Moostie were paired together in 2017 and 2021... losing those 4&2 (vs. Geoff/Robbie) and 3&1 (vs. Geoff/Reid). I don't see how Casey/Troy lose to these fools. Blue wins easy.
Match 3 - Gary is playing much better lately. But he's going to put Melberg in some unfamiliar spots. Blue also wins this one easy.
Day 2 - Four-Ball
Match 4 - This will come down to which team makes the most pars. Last season's pars-or-better averages per round: Troy (7.4), Casey (8.25), Moostie (4.2), Gary (4.7). Blue dominates as Casey becomes the steal of the draft.
Match 5 - Very difficult match to predict here, as Reid and Ho are trending in opposite directions. I have to imagine Dave makes enough pars to push a lot of holes. Reid cleans up with his bags of sand. Gray wins.
Match 6 - This all comes down to: can Geoff play smart golf and make bogeys? With Chandler in his ear all day... he'll do just that. Blue wins again.
Blue leads 4.5 to 1.5 after two days. This is where the "party index" comes into play. Blue will be in high spirits. Gray will feel like all is lost. Who imbibes too much on Saturday night? We'll rate everyone on a scale of 0 - no hangover, 1 - tired but ok, and 2 - "why do we keep doing this?"
Blue Team - Geoff (2), Chandler (2), Faz (2), Troy (0), Casey (0), Ho (0) = 6 party points
Gray Team - Brendan (0), Dave (2), Melberg (1), Reid (0), Gary (1), Moostie (1) = 5 party points
Gray should have the edge on Sunday.
Day 3 - Singles
Match 7 - Troy vs. Brendan (1st time ever). Troy (Blue) wins only due to the 3 strokes.
Match 8 - Geoff vs. Moostie (1st time ever). Moostie has to score a point somewhere. Gray wins.
Match 9 - Chandler vs. Dave (Dave leads 2-0). Dave should have been the first pick. He's the best. The GOAT. He never loses. Gray wins.
Match 10 - Faz vs. Gary (Faz leads 2-0). Six strokes is a lot to overcome. Calling this another tie.
Match 11 - Casey vs. Melberg (1st time ever). Melberg gets it done and restores honor to his name after that choke against Reid in 2022 and near choke against Faz in 2023. Gray wins.
Match 12 - Ho vs. Reid (series tied 0-0-1). Reid with 8 strokes puts some pot holes in the Scratch Road. Gray wins.
Final Score: Match tied 6-6. We go to a playoff (hopefully Verandah allows us).
Geoff gets 4 strokes on Brendan in the playoff (#2, #8, #13, #17). First hole, a tricky par 5 with trees on the left, water on the right, and depending on where the tee is set... driver might be too much club. It's a nightmare for anyone with nerves.
Geoff pulls his drive left into the trees, and completely ejects. Gray wins the Rapture.
Correction... Faz is 0-2 against Gary. I don't regret the error.
DeleteI think this Rapture will be tied after day 2 and Grey wins 4 pts. on day 3 for the win.
ReplyDeleteGray is an amazing team. I'm resting all the bad swings out of my game..
ReplyDeleteDay 1 - Chapman
ReplyDeleteMatch 1 - Chandler/Faz WIN. Brendan will nervously want to prove he's a worthy captain and fail to do so... Is Reid a new-found sandbagger or father time catching up with him?
Match 2 - Casey/Troy WIN. The PED boys cancel each other out and Tall Mike said he will be resting his bad swings, so I'm assuming he'll still be asleep when this match begins.
Match 3 - Gary/Melberg beat Geoff.
Day 2 - Four-Ball
Match 4 - The new power couple of Casey/Troy get the wins over bad back and bad eyes. Blue Wins
Match 5 - Faz/Ho bond over club shaft weight and driver center-of-gravity and are able to beat Reid/Dave as Dave's legs tire from hunting for balls. Blue Wins
Match 6 - Geoff/Chandler narrowly beat Melberg/Brendan with some Pooie-Thai finishing moves!
Blue sweeps Day 2.
Blue leads 5-1 after two days.
Day 3 - Singles
Match 7 - Troy vs. Brendan. The sober classic ends with a Blue victory.
Match 8 - Geoff vs. Moostie. Tall Mike stays up too late and forgets to rest his bad swings. Blue Wins again.
Match 9 - Chandler vs. Dave. Dave is mad he didn't get picked first and takes it out on Chandler. Gray Wins.
Match 10 - Faz vs. Gary. This is a tough call... I like the idea of this being the only TIE of the weekend.
Match 11 - Casey vs. Melberg. This is another tough one to call, but I like Casey in a close match. Blue Wins.
Match 12 - Ho vs. Reid. 8 strokes is too many... Gray wins.
Final Score: 8-3-1 Blue Team takes home the Moses.
