Winter Board meeting is next Wednesday (11/20). This is the one time of year we consider any playing rule changes. Comment if you have anything you want the Board to discuss.
Topics on my list are:
- Reinstatement of Topor for 2025 - injured all of 2024 due to parkour activities
- Board vote on new membership — Marcus B, sponsored by Big John:
- Has fulfilled playing requirements
- Handicap Index would start at 12.8
- Needs 3 of 5 Board votes at the meeting, followed by 75% Member votes in a general election
- All voting is confidential - but totals will be published
- 75% Member approval is very difficult to achieve, by design. Here's hoping John has been a good Sponsor and explained all this to his guy.
- Change to end-of-season rain-outs policy and subsequent affect on our final Major
- Review of the coffer balance (Chandler Bucks)
- Review of 3-minute ball-hunt rule, along with finding a ball after another has been dropped into play
What am I missing?

ReplyDeleteGallery drop. If all of your playing partners agree that the ball is inbounds (think hitting it right on South 2 in those trees) but the ball can not be found because of deep rough (OB/Hazard is nowhere near) than a free drop where ball should have been.

ReplyDeleteyes, if prices on courses keep getting to a stupid number, there will only be a few courses we end up playing every year to keep the costs down (Jovita for $70, esplanade for $75, lakewood ranch for $80) I also know it's happened at other courses but couldn't remember where. Seems like it happens almost every time we play south

DeleteA tie will probably never happen again in future Raptures but I would like to propose an aggregate playoff between captains if so. 3 holes (1 hole for every round we play). I understand it may be a challenge based on the club we play and if they have groups going out, etc. However if we're able to play 1 extra hole, I don't think 2 more should be an issue. Plus there's a chance it could end up being multiple holes anyway if there's a push.

In lieu of a pitcher can I propose a shared app(s) for the table of equal value to qualify. I have been spending a lot of time at the bottom of the leaderboard and by the time I show up in the clubhouse the table is full of pitchers.

ReplyDeleteChange one of the first 2 events of the year to a Two Man Best Ball Event. Still able to keep individual scores but feel like we could use a team format in our rotation. I’ll let the board ponder on points and how to setup the teams.

ReplyDeleteMatch Play is late enough in the season that we can shove a couple of people who aren’t relevant to ghost spots.
Team game early on wouldn’t work.
- Revising Skins Game: Explore the possibility of awarding prize money to both Skins winners and top finishers in the event. This could involve either increasing the event's entry fee or redistributing the existing $20 entry fee between the two categories. The split doesn’t need to be 50/50 and could be adjusted based on preference.

- No-Show Penalties: Discuss implementing financial or points penalties for players who withdraw the day before or on the morning of an event without a valid excuse. Last-minute changes require updates to the pairings on the blog and GameBook which is a burden for the commissioner.
Clarify your "tee it forward" suggestion. How do we allow people to move up if not tied to age or handicap? Anyone can move up if they feel like it for an entire season? How many tees can they move up (what yardages)? How does that help "pace of play" when our two biggest slow-players (both named Mike) are either already playing up or wouldn't choose to do so?

ReplyDeleteThey're slow because they're slow. Mentally and physically.
They aren't slow because they're playing the wrong set of tees. That's something the CAN happen on golf courses, but definitely doesn't happen in a league where the base tees average 6,100.
None of our guys who choose to play 6,500+ are "slow."
If you're slow, you're choosing to be slow. You don't know how to get out of the cart in a timely manner. You don't know how to read putts or select clubs when other people are hitting. You don't leave the safety of the cart to go to your own ball. You don't drop your cartner off at their ball. You hunt longer than 3 minutes for lost balls. You're on your phone too much during the round.
Every single slow play episode I've witnessed over the last 13+ years was due to a combination of things in the previous paragraph.

A: According to the PGA and USGA guidelines, members can choose to "tee it forward" to yardages recommended based on their driver distance. If there’s a discrepancy in what a member believes their driving distance to be, the board can review and make a final determination.
Q: Anyone can move up if they feel like it for an entire season?
A: The board can discuss this, but my suggestion would be similar to our weekly "course previews," where members can post on the blog if they choose to tee it forward for that week.

A: The board can decide on this, but my recommendation would be to allow members to move up one tee box, as long as it aligns with the recommended yardages for an 18-hole course.

A: As stated in the link, “If you want to have more fun on the golf course and maybe play a little faster...”. The guidelines suggest that moving up may improve pace of play. While this isn't guaranteed, it could produce quicker rounds for some players.

Again… you (Gorecki) already play a set of tees up and are still slow. Quoting verbiage written by some random intern doesn’t make good policy.
ReplyDeleteSince you (Gorecki) only make suggestions to benefit yourself, let us know what tees you played over the last 4 seasons (two years) that have you asking for policy change. I seem to remember there were a couple of weeks where your index dropped below 25. But let us know what course and yardage wasn’t fair.
